GTA Online Quietly Cut Payouts on 20 Heists in the Kortz Center Update

The Kortz Center Heist arrived in GTA Online on July 14 and immediately became one of the most discussed updates in years — but not entirely for the reasons Rockstar intended. Buried alongside the new heist content were payout reductions across more than 20 existing missions, cuts that players say were nowhere near prominently featured in the patch notes.

Which Heists Were Hit

The reductions touch some of the most-played content in GTA Online. The Diamond Casino Heist, long a go-to for consistent income, saw its top payout drop from $3 million to roughly $2.3 million. A second tier at the same location fell from $2.6 million to around $1.8 million. The Cayo Perico Heist — particularly popular with solo players for its Pink Diamond target — had that payout trimmed from $1.3 million to $910,000.

Other affected content includes the Doomsday Heist, the Cluckin Bell Farm Raid, the Agency Finale, and the KnoWay Out Finale. Across the board, the reported cuts range from roughly 20 percent to as steep as 40 percent on certain tiers, though Rockstar has not published official before-and-after figures.

Why Now?

The theory most widely shared in the community is that Rockstar reduced existing payouts to ensure the Kortz Center Heist sits at the top of the earnings table. The new heist — which requires owning a Mansion property and installing the Art Studio upgrade — offers a first-time Hard completion reward in the region of $3 million, a figure that looks far more competitive once previous leaders like the Casino Heist have been trimmed.

Whether or not that was the intent, the rollout drew sharp criticism. Many players described the changes as a “scam” or a “bait-and-switch,” pointing out that the nerfs were not headlined in Rockstar’s promotional material ahead of the update. The Art Studio property itself costs around $16 million even at its discounted launch price, so the return-on-investment calculation for new players is not straightforward.

A Sour Note Before GTA 6

The timing adds extra scrutiny. The Kortz Center Heist is widely expected to be one of the final significant content drops for GTA Online before the series moves to Grand Theft Auto VI in November. Exiting with stealth nerfs to a decade of accumulated content — rather than a goodwill gesture to a long-running player base — struck many observers as a misstep, particularly with GTA Online players expected to eventually carry their spending habits into whatever GTA 6’s online component looks like.

Rockstar has not issued a public statement addressing the payout changes.
