GTA 6 Map: A Guide to All Six Regions of the State of Leonida
Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 is set in the State of Leonida, a Florida-inspired open world anchored by Vice City. Here is what has been revealed about all six named regions from trailers and official screenshots.
Grand Theft Auto VI is set in the State of Leonida, Rockstar’s Florida-inspired open world that the studio has described as the largest and most densely detailed map in GTA history. Six distinct regions have been identified through official trailers and the 60-plus screenshots Rockstar released alongside pre-order details in late June. Here is what is known about each one — with the caveat that Rockstar has not published a full official map or detailed breakdown, so some specifics are drawn from community analysis of trailer footage rather than direct studio statements.
Vice City and the Urban Coast
Vice City sits at the center of Leonida and is the primary urban setting for Jason and Lucia’s story. Trailers show a city of Art Deco beach architecture, neon-lit nightlife strips, high-rise downtown districts, and expansive waterfront developments. Rockstar has described it as the most detailed city the studio has ever built, with NPC routines, interactive businesses, and a level of environmental density well beyond anything seen in GTA 5’s Los Santos. The Leonida Keys — a tropical island archipelago to the south, drawn from the Florida Keys — extend off the city’s southern edge and appear to offer boating routes, smuggling opportunities, and open water exploration.
The Grassrivers and Rural Interior
Moving away from the coast, the Grassrivers region is Rockstar’s interpretation of Florida’s Everglades: a vast stretch of swamp, mangrove channels, and subtropical wetlands. Screenshots confirm the presence of alligators, and the dense, low-visibility terrain suggests a very different feel from Vice City’s skyline. The region is expected to support airboat travel and to feature a rougher, more unpredictable brand of open-world activity than the city offers.
Further inland, Ambrosia is described as an agricultural and industrial county defined by sugar refineries, small rural towns, and a strong biker culture. This appears to be where the game’s more working-class, hinterland narrative threads play out — a contrast in tone to Vice City’s excess.
The Northern Reaches
The northern part of Leonida introduces two more distinct environments. Port Gellhorn, on the northwest coast, is presented as a formerly prosperous port city now marked by economic decline: cheap motels, shuttered businesses, and a shadow economy that draws comparisons to GTA 5’s Paleto Bay but on a larger, more developed scale.
Mount Kalaga occupies the northeastern interior as a forested highland and national park. Screenshots suggest trails, elevated terrain, and off-road vehicle opportunities — a green, elevated environment that contrasts sharply with the flat swampland of Grassrivers and the urban density of Vice City.
How Big Is Leonida?
Rockstar has confirmed only that GTA 6’s map is larger than GTA 5’s and designed to feel more alive and reactive. Community estimates based on trailer geometry and leaked engine coordinates place the total landmass at roughly 1.5 to 2 times GTA 5’s playable area, though no official figure has been published. The studio has consistently emphasized density over raw size — the goal is a world that rewards exploration rather than simply being large.
