GTA 6 Global Release Times: New Zealand Gets It First, 19-Hour Gap to Last Regions
PlayStation Store regional listings reveal GTA 6 unlocks at midnight local time in each territory, with New Zealand going first at 11 AM UTC on November 18 and some regions waiting nearly a full day longer.
Grand Theft Auto VI does not launch simultaneously worldwide. PlayStation Store regional listings have mapped out a staggered global release in which the game unlocks at midnight local time in each territory on November 19 — meaning players in some parts of the world will be loading into Leonida nearly a full day before others. Rockstar Games has not issued an official global schedule, but the PlayStation Store data is widely considered reliable. Times remain subject to change before launch.
Who Gets It First
New Zealand unlocks the game first. Midnight on November 19 in New Zealand Daylight Time (NZDT) translates to 11:00 AM UTC on November 18, or approximately 3:00 AM PT on November 18 for players on the US West Coast. Australia and Japan follow shortly after as their midnight hours arrive, then European territories go live across the continent through the day, and North American players access the game starting at midnight Eastern Time — 9:00 PM PT on November 18.
Mexico and Central America are among the last regions to unlock, finishing the staggered rollout approximately 19 hours after New Zealand. In total, the rollout spans roughly 15 separate unlock windows across global time zones.
The New Zealand Region Trick
The staggered schedule has prompted discussion in the player community about a technique that has circulated around other major PlayStation launches: changing a console’s regional setting to New Zealand before launch to access the game at that country’s earlier midnight unlock. Whether this approach will work for GTA 6 has not been confirmed by Sony or Rockstar, but players in online communities are reportedly planning to attempt it.
Anyone considering this should be aware of the caveats — changing console region can affect DLC compatibility, PlayStation Plus library access, and in some cases account-level save data, depending on how Sony handles cross-region scenarios. As a fan site, we recommend reviewing Sony’s current regional account policies before attempting any region switch.
Xbox Series X|S
No equivalent global time breakdown has emerged for the Microsoft Store as of this writing. GTA 6 releases on Xbox Series X|S alongside the PS5 version on November 19, and Microsoft’s platform typically follows a similar midnight-local-time rollout for major launches, though the specific regional unlock windows for GTA 6 on Xbox have not been confirmed.
