A Rockstar Retweet Set Off a GTA 6 Trailer Frenzy — It Was Just a New Song

On July 6, Rockstar shared a CircoLoco Records post with an eyes emoji and a July 10 date, sending fans into speculation mode. The reveal turned out to be a dance track, not GTA 6 news.

It has become something of a pre-launch ritual. Every time Rockstar Games moves on social media — a retweet, an unusual emoji, a changed profile image — a portion of the GTA 6 community shifts into high-alert mode. On July 6, that reflex was triggered again, and the result was one of the more memorable false alarms of the pre-launch cycle.

What Set It Off

On July 6, Rockstar’s official social accounts reshared a post from CircoLoco Records featuring an eyes emoji alongside the date “Friday, July 10.” For most companies, that would be unremarkable. For Rockstar — which owns CircoLoco, an Ibiza-based electronic music label the company acquired in 2021 — the post immediately sparked speculation among fans who have learned to watch every platform for signals about a third GTA 6 trailer.

The reasoning felt intuitive at the time. Rockstar leaned heavily on licensed music in both of its previous GTA 6 trailers, and CircoLoco artists have featured in that material. An eyes emoji from a Rockstar-owned label, pointing to a specific date during a week many expected a marketing move, seemed to some like exactly the kind of oblique signal the studio tends to use.

What It Actually Was

On July 10, CircoLoco published “Sun Soaked Silver Lines,” a new track featuring singer Emily Warren. A summer dance release, nothing more. No Trailer 3 drop, no GTA 6 teaser, no release date update — just music. Rockstar’s GTA-specific social channels posted nothing GTA 6-related that week.

Coverage from multiple outlets noted the speed with which fan expectations built and then deflated, and pointed to the episode as a good illustration of the information gap Rockstar has deliberately created.

The Pattern Will Continue

The CircoLoco episode reflects where the fandom sits about four months from launch. With Trailer 3 unconfirmed and pre-orders already open, every piece of Rockstar output is processed through the same filter: is this connected? The answer is regularly no, but the pattern of watching — and hoping — is baked into the community at this stage.

As of July 16, no third trailer has been announced. The August 7 Take-Two earnings call, scheduled before market open in an unusual pre-market slot, remains the next broadly cited candidate for a significant GTA 6 moment.
