What Analysts Are Predicting for GTA 6 Sales at Launch

Industry analysts have placed first-year sales estimates for GTA 6 anywhere between 30 million and 85 million copies, with some projecting revenue figures that would make it the biggest entertainment launch in history.

With GTA 6 less than four months from its November 19, 2026 launch, financial analysts have been issuing sales forecasts that are, in some cases, almost difficult to believe. The range is wide, but even the most conservative projections point to a game that will comfortably shatter records. Here is what the major firms are saying — and why the numbers vary so sharply.

The Range of Forecasts

Analyst estimates for GTA 6’s first-year sales span from roughly 30 million to 85 million copies, depending on the methodology used.

Piper Sandler projects around 35 million units sold by April 2027, roughly the first five months of the game’s commercial life. DFC Intelligence lands at 40 million copies within the first year, alongside a $3.2 billion total revenue figure and a projection of more than $1 billion generated from pre-orders alone across the pre-launch window.

On the more bullish end, Konvoy has forecast 85 million copies in the first 60 days and revenue of approximately $7.6 billion in that same two-month window. Some forecasters have suggested GTA 6 could generate over $1 billion in revenue within its first 60 minutes of availability — a figure that, if accurate, would represent the largest single commercial moment in entertainment history.

The variation between firms comes down to assumptions about pricing (whether the $79.99 standard or $99.99 Ultimate Edition leads), console install base penetration, and how quickly digital versus physical splits affect day-one reporting.

Context: What GTA 5 Did

Part of why these numbers feel plausible is what GTA 5 achieved over time. Released in September 2013, GTA 5 has sold well over 200 million copies across four console generations and PC, making it one of the best-selling entertainment products of any kind ever produced. GTA 6’s opportunity is launching into an era with a larger combined PS5 and Xbox Series X|S install base than GTA 5 ever had at any single point in its life, at a single premium price point, with no cross-gen split diluting the release.

That said, some analysts are cautious about whether GTA 6 can match GTA 5’s extraordinary longevity. GTA 5’s staying power was partly driven by GTA Online, which ran for over a decade. How quickly and how successfully GTA 6 Online launches — currently expected in a window after the November 19 single-player debut — will shape the game’s revenue trajectory far more than opening-week numbers.

What This Means for Pre-Orders

Pre-orders opened June 25 and Rockstar confirmed the standard edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99. Early reports suggested the Ultimate Edition was leading PlayStation Store pre-order charts in several territories, which would meaningfully push average selling price above the floor figure analysts use in their baseline models.

All projections carry the caveat that Rockstar has not published its own sales targets or pre-order figures. These are analyst estimates, not confirmed company guidance.
